From 2016 to 2020, the construction of seven new innovative Living City Labs will be phased into The Living City Campus. Building on the success of the existing labs, Toronto and Region Conservation, in partnership with the BRE Innovation Parks Network, expansion of The Living City Campus will include seven additional Living City Labs to form an archetype low carbon demonstration community showcasing innovation in sustainable construction. The Living City Campus offers a broad scope of opportunities for like-minded individuals and organizations to help cultivate real solutions by providing a range of engagement levels that will appeal to your organization’s objectives and capacities. By providing a phased development to meet various themes and performance targets, The Living City Campus offers industry a structured route to develop products and services that can be implemented, tested, monitored and verified years before the “push” from legislation comes into force. Customized plots will be built to meet the following performance targets: LOT 1 – Small Scale Commercial Living Building Challenge WELL Building Standard LOT 2 – Low Impact Construction Affordable Sustainability Energy Efficient Design LOT 3 – Active House Indoor Environmental Quality LOT 4 – Net Zero/Net Positive Energy Energy Storage Water Efficiency LOT 5 – Accessibility Assisted Living and Health Indoor Environmental Quality LOT 6 – Microgrid Affordable Sustainability Living Building Challenge LOT 7 – DC Smart Grid Modern Methods of Construction LOT 8 – Archetype Sustainable House Partners of The Living City Campus will benefit from the following: Pairing of research partners with industry partners Funding leveraging opportunities Access to existing infrastructure and resources Project management and experienced research assistance Experiential training opportunities Additionally, remote access to a data aggregation network with user interface and real-time performance displays allow for easy data queries, plotting of historical data and an opportunity to connect educational facilities and other partners from across Canada. Our labs offer businesses a safe and continuously verified route for product development, giving both industry and legislators confidence that standards are appropriate to industry’s ability to deliver.
