Living City Farm

The Living City Farm provides accessible fresh and local food, a sense of community, economic opportunities, and learning facilities – all with reduced environmental impacts.

Sustainable and local food systems improve food security, stimulate economic opportunity in the area, reduce our ecological footprint, and provide a cultural community for people to grow food together.

Living City Farm

As the largest landowner in the GTA, Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) owns and manages approximately 400 hectares of agricultural land. At The Living City Campus, as well as at other sites, TRCA offers multi-year leases as part of its adoption of the Sustainable Near-Urban Agriculture Policy.

This policy protects agricultural land and encourages sustainable communities by producing local food for the Toronto region.

Current research at The Living City Farm focuses on finding ways to increase crop yields, developing low cost irrigation methods and minimizing agricultural water waste.
